Understanding Your Results

What is BMI?

BMI (Body Mass Index) is a widely used screening tool that estimates body fat based on your weight and height. A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered a healthy weight. While the BMI calculator is a convenient starting point, it does not directly measure body fat percentage and may not account for differences in muscle mass, age, or ethnicity.

What is BMR?

BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest to maintain essential functions such as breathing, circulation, and cell production. FitCalc uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, the most accurate formula for most people:

  • Male: 10W + 6.25H − 5A + 5
  • Female: 10W + 6.25H − 5A − 161

Where W = weight (kg), H = height (cm), A = age (years).

What is TDEE?

TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is the total number of calories you burn each day, accounting for your activity level. It is calculated by multiplying your BMR by an activity multiplier. Knowing your TDEE helps you manage your weight: eat below your TDEE to lose weight, at your TDEE to maintain, and above to gain.
